What a truly amazing experience the "Sports and Education" Program in Ancient Olympia has been! The Center for Hellenic Studies, Harvard University, brought together 44 students from Greek and American Universities for an inspiring 5-day journey right here in the birthplace of the Olympic Games.
It was an incredible opportunity to learn from renowned professors, Olympic gold medalists, and accomplished student-athletes. We explored the rich history of the Olympic games, the foundational principles of Olympism, and the profound connection between sport (αθλητισμός) and education (παιδεία).
Engaging with experts from a wide array of disciplines, I had the chance to contribute my medical perspective on the interconnectedness between mind and body. This program strongly reinforced that exercising both mind and body is essential for a truly healthy life overall. It's certainly no coincidence that our ancestors emphasized: "Νους υγιής, εν σώματι υγιεί" (a healthy mind lives within a healthy body).
Feeling incredibly grateful for this unique and insightful program, and for the chance to connect with such a diverse group of peers and mentors!
